Part seven of our summer squad number feature Squad numbers were introduced for the first time in the 1999/2000 season and a generation of Clarets have since put their own special mark on a particular shirt.

 Repeating a series by contributor Wallace Chadwick which ran in the on-line Turf matchday magazine during the 2020/21 season, we will be highlighting who wore what and profiling some of those who made their mark at Turf Moor.

 This instalment features shirt number 5, currently worn by James Tarkowski, since his arrival from Brentford in 2017.

Tarks for me, has been Mr consistent, will miss him if he goes, he has a great partnership with Ben. (Sm152)

Closest one yet. But with five seasons in the premier league & barely a foot wrong it has to be Tarkowski for me too.

Keane was also a fantastic defender for us and I'm sure he will always be remembered fondly
along with Davis, Sinclair, Carlisle & Shackell.

Keane had an Achilles heal in his play Tarks pretty much doesn't. Steve Davies never really had the chance to show what he had.

I can remember saying to an Everton supporting friend of mine when they signed Keane, 'You've signed the wrong one, you could have had Tarkowski for one third of what you paid for Keane, and he'll turn out the better of the two.'

Nothing against Keane, but I think I was right.

My cousin, who is an evertonian, was advised by my good self that Keane had an Achilles heel. He is a good lad who has put £35m squid in our bank, nothing more to add.

This is not the case FL, when his son Dean was at Junior school, Bobby turned for the School Sports day one year, he was persuaded to take part, along with his son, in the egg and spoon race. He won comfortably. (Sm3)

Bobby Moore had impeccable timing and grace, sheer class. We did good in the Keane deal fulledge.
Happier with Tarks and Ben. Not perfect but better.
