Brighton 2 Burnley 2

By Burnley FC
April 2 2016

Burnley overcame rough justice to snatch a precious point through Michael Keane's last-gasp bullet header.Moments earlier, with the Clarets pushing hard for a second equaliser, Keane was denied by a farcical refereeing decision after his header had clearly crossed the line.

But Sean Dyche’s never-say-die side shrugged off the frustration and righted the wrong in sensational fashion to extend their unbeaten run to 16 games.

Earlier, Andre Gray’s 23rd goal of the season cancelled out Dale Stephens’ opener, before Anthony Knockaert restored the hosts’ lead with a deflected 45th minute strike.

And the stunning events at the Amex duly kept Albion at arms’ length as the season draws to breathtaking climax.

Ashley Barnes returned to the squad for the first time since May in the only change to the 18 that drew with Wolves last time out.

Barnes replaced Rouwen Hennings on the bench in front of Albion’s biggest home crowd of the season.

And Burnley wasted no time setting about their toughest test of the season, as Gray tested David Stockdale with a drive from distance in the first minute.

Joey Barton failed to connect cleanly David Jones’ second corner in a matter of minutes as the Clarets’ composed start continued.

Liam Rosenior blazed over from Albion’s first foray forward, as the hosts looked to counter quickly at every opportunity.

But the visitors continued to probe and from a long ball forward midway through the half, in-form Sam Vokes chested down and volleyed tamely wide.

However, on the half hour, Albion opened the scoring. A corner flicked off Matt Lowton’s head to the far post where Stephens somehow bundled the ball home from the tightest of angles.

It needed a response – and it got one within three minutes as Burnley equalised.

What a great point... We never give in.....played second fiddle for most of the game ,not a great performance but hey we snatch a vital point at the death, how sick must those Brighton fans be feeling now..

It was a good point,,maybe a great point,,maybe a critical point come the end of the season.

But boy oh boy Dyche is so rigid,,rigid can get stale

Great to see both Marney and Barnes back.

Taylor supersub? Must be a high percentage of points gained on his late arrivals

Just about sums up our season that game. With 10 minutes to go Mrs BC said, 'They don't look like they're going to score do they.' 'No they don't' I said, 'but they probably will.'

And they did.

Did anyone at any point think we would lose that?

Must admit, i did feel fairly confident we werent going to lose that.
Its just what we do isnt it.

Thought Barton was very lucky. Another day, another ref, could easily have seen a straight red.

The bit I enjoyed most was our first goal, for three previous corners I'd seen Bruno holding Ward in a bear hug, I could see it quite clearly so I assume the ref and liner could as well, but of course they weren't interested. Then at the next corner when the ball drops in front of Ward, Bruno is in no position to clear it because he's busy gripping Ward from behind again and trying to wrestle him to the ground. Ward this time is quite happy to have Bruno all over his back as it gives Gray all the time he needs to smack the ball into the back of the net.

Very nice to see the cheating toe-rag contribute so effectively to Gray's goal.(Sm13)

Was delighted but surprised to see us score from a set piece in the dying minutes against Brighton.........Hughton has them well rehearsed in all types of gamesmanship to run the clock down or gain advantage from the ref.A comment from a journo suggests SD had twigged that by his non stop whingeing to the fourth official throughout the game.......whatever it takes, no more Mr. nice guy BFC.About time.

Bit difficult to say it at the time on here when you're sat at the game roaring the men on.

I said it to the fella next to me though. It's what I do.

Exactly the same weekend 2 years ago the leaders Leicester travelled to second place Burnley, won 2-0 to go 6 points clear of second (not seven which we will do).
