Burnley 3 Birmingham 0

BRILLIANT Burnley gave sorry Birmingham a dose of the blues as they took out their derby day frustrations on the Midlanders. The rampant Clarets sealed their best start to a league season for 12 years with a scintillating attacking performance that could have brought more than the three goals.

Striker Danny Ings took his tally to seven for the season with terrifically taken goals either side of the interval.

And Scott Arfield, whose unfortunate back pass cost the Clarets dear against Blackburn at the weekend, was all smiles again just 17 seconds into the second half as he headed home Michael Kightly’s pinpoint cross.

Birmingham, suffering their worst start to a season for 25 years, rarely threatened Tom Heaton’s well protected goal.

And in stark contrast, the Clarets moved effortlessly  up to fourth in the Championship table as their stunning start to the season continued in fine style.

Sean Dyche named an unchanged side from the disappointment of the weekend.

There was a special cheer reserved ahead of kick off for returning Wembley legend Wade Elliott, who was named captain for the night by Birmingham in the absence of the suspended Paul Robinson.

And the cheers were ringing out again in the third minute when Ings put the Clarets ahead,

All the hard work was done by Sam Vokes, whose control and slide-rule half volley sent his striker partner clear, and Ings made no mistake with the coolest of chips over advancing keeper Darren Randolph.

Ings could and probably should have had a second two minutes later following good work by David Jones and Michael Kightly.

Summer signing Jones played the ball wide to the on-loan Stoke winger, whose inch-perfect cross picked out Ings for a side-foot finish from eight yards that the on-song striker somehow put wide with Randolph rooted to his spot.

As comfortable victory as we are likely to get all season. Brum were awful and reminded me so much of us under laws. Only player that looked half interested for them was Burke.

For us although Danny deservedly got man of the match I think a big shout should be given to Big Sam too. His workrate for a big lad is phenomenal and his hold up and link up play is just getting better and better.

Strange game, almost like a friendly, I don't think there was a single yellow card. Birmingham were totally outclassed, could/should have been 6-0.

Dyche Out!

I know he has not spent a penny in transfer fee yet and only signed a few frees and a couple of loans but DYCHE OUT.

Long ball dull as dishwater.

As for the board, get rid, if they are only thinking of breaking even on 10,000 crowds and competing where we are then they need to go - we should be turning a profit.

Just look at the manager the appointed too, awful!!!

Which chairman idiot was it that claimed there were good frees about? I know weve signed Heaton (better than £750K Grant), Jones (better than £?M rated McCann) and Arfield (better than both £500K Bartley and £800K Treacy) on Frees but its just not good enough - where are these brilliant frees?

Sick of it.

Dyche, Woan, Garlic and Banjostring - OUT!

Fred was talking about Big Seany Dyche last night.

One thing I said about him, and it totally reminded me of me and you, is that he had a great pre-Season, had to sell Austin, couldnt spend the money and carried on the next day literally as though things were no different...and he is still like that now.

I can honestly say at the time I was like that too, and think you were.

Just get on with it.

In life there are winners and losers and only YOU can decide which you are - BSD seems to be a winner.

I agree MH, I've even stopped worrying about when we lose Ings or Vokes, as at some time we surely must. He'll find a way round it.

What impressed me most about last night was the ease with which we beat Birmingham. This is a notoriously tight division, there aren't many easy games even against the bottom teams, yet we looked different class to Birmingham. We were miles better in every aspect of the game and you don't see that very often at this level.

Maybe Birmingham had an off night, they were supposed to have been very unlucky to lose at QPR last Saturday, you'd hope so for their sake, because on that display they're not in the same league as us.
