Eddie Howe admits Graham Alexander's desire to extend his remarkable playing career had been a factor behind his exit from Turf Moor.

Alexander ended a four-year stay with the Clarets after turning down the chance to stay on in a coaching capacity for a further 12 months.
But Howe admitted a parting of the ways had still been difficult in the light of Alexander's massive contribution to Burnley's success - most notably in winning promotion to the Premier League in 2009 - following his arrival from Preston in August 2007.
