A Chris Eagles goal secures Burnley a 1-0 win against a Singapore Select side to win the FIS Asian Challenge Cup.
The Clarets started the game well creating many opportunities with Duff and Thompson coming close in the first five minutes against a team composed mainly of the Singapore Under-21 National Team. Equally however, the Select side tested the Clarets with Fairoz Hasan hitting the back of the net but rightly ruled offside. Into the second half, the Clarets once again started well with some great play by Thomson and Eagles followed by Marney almost encroaching the penalty area only to be brought down. Eagles, calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner from the resulting free kick to put the Clarets 1-0 up on the 50th minute. The chances kept coming in a thoroughly entertaining game with both teams coming close including one from the Singaporeans towards the end of the game which was superbly blocked by Brian Jensen Burnley: Jensen, Fox (Easton 74), Duff, Bikey (Carlisle 74), Eckersley (Cort 46), Alexander (Edgar 46), Wallace, Marney (McDonald 61), Elliott, Eagles, Thompson (Rodriguez 60).Subs: Mawson, Harvey, Fletcher.
