Clarets Topple The Leaders

Burnleys chances of a play-off place were boosted by a superb display by the home side.

It was just six minutes in when Wade Elliotts superb cross was met by the head of highly rated Chris McCann to give Wanderers keeper Hennessey no chance.

chrismcann_261208_aWolves are sitting pretty at the top of the championship but they have only won one of their last eight league games and with results going against them this was a game of great importance to both sides.
Both teams had further chances in the first half with both Jarvis and Kightly firing efforts wide to keep the Claret nerves jangling. Elliott also saw a long range effort fly over the bar and Hennessey was again on hand when Clarets skipper Caldwell had a point blank header saved.

The Clarets have been playing some good football in recent weeks playing a very neat and attractive game that we haven't seen for a long time at Turf Moor but I am sure we can get a play-off place if we continue to play the way we did yesterday because for me it was a truly great performance and the Clarets had more chances in the second half to really put this game to bed with Paterson, McCann, Caldwell and later on Mcdonald too, but it was Burnleys resolve in defence that impressed me so much today, they did not give Wolves a moments peace on the ball and looked a solid unit right from the first whistle.

Its Coventry up next on Tuesday at the Turf and three points from that game will see the Clarets move in to the top six and hopefully that's where we will stay untl the end of the season.

Final Score; Burnley 1 Wolves 0

Att; 13,515

Ref C Oliver

Great news no cards for either side this week.
