The Reunion Dinner - Nigel Benn & Steve Collins

November 3 2008

UK Celebrity Events was formed in September 2006, By November of that year UKCE (UK Celebrity Events) had Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock as an after dinner speaker to over 200 guests at Burnley Football Club, in the 1882 Lounge, which was reported to have been their biggest event since the refurbishment.

That event was organized in aid of the Cerebral Palsy Charity, Scope. The reason this charity was chosen over others was due to Gavin Roper, Events Manager.Gavin’s nephew unfortunately suffers from this disability and so, as this charity is close to his heart, this would be the ideal benefactor of the first charity fund raising event. They managed to raise over £2,000 for Scope which was a tremendous achievement from a standing start.

Gavin who posts on the Longside.co.uk has worked tirelessly raising funds whether it be McMillan Nurses or SCOPE, his efforts have not gone unnoticed, you can find Gavin by E-Mail to gavin@ukcelebrityevents.co.uk, or visit the website http://www.ukcelebrityevents.co.uk

On the 28th November 2008, UKCE has managed to get two of the greatest middleweights this side of the Atlantic, Nigel "The Dark Destroyer" Benn & Steve "The Celtic Warrior" Collin's, both who have thrilled fight fans and dominated the world stage.

This event is to raise funds and awareness for the Variety club, This is taken from the Variety Club website "The Variety Club Children's Charity exists to improve the quality of life for sick, disabled and disadvantaged children throughout the country. The past 50 years show that Variety Club has a wonderful track-record of helping where help is needed. With the generous contributions from the public, our impact on deprived youngsters has been tremendous and we have raised over £200 million for them. As long as there are disadvantaged children in the United Kingdom our work remains incomplete."

Back to the night in question, the 28th of November 2008 will see Burnley Football Club team up again with Celebrity events, and bring together two of the icons of the 90s Nigel Benn and Steve Collins, Benn who was the apitomy of sheer bloodymindedness, is the face of the best pound for pound fighter on the planet, Gerald McLennan where Benn was so much the underdog that bookies gave a price of 6/1 for Benn just to be victorious, Benn went 10 rounds with Mclennan in the most brutal fight I have ever witnessed.  Benn defeated the big punching American, after being knocked out of the ring within the first minute. It goes down in history as one of the best ever bouts!

Collins turned professional in America where he went an amazing 17 bouts unbeaten in the state Massachusetts, some feat on its own.  Today's boxers keep trying to be victorious over the pond, Collins started there and won there.

Collins beat both Benn and Eubank but his big fight never came though, he wanted Roy Jones Jnr in his prime, he offed money, he offered to fight for nothing! But the big mouth American wouldn't play ball, and the fight never happened! Collins who himself was due to fight Joe Calzaghe one historic night 11 years ago, for the vacant WBO Title, history shows that late substitute for the injured Steve Collins would be no other than Chris Eubank, Eubank lost on points after taking the then young Welshman all 12 rounds, to start a monotony of that belt which has yet to end!

These two men who have lived life to the full, both loved the accolades, both who craved the glory, both who fought the best about, neither shirked a challenge, come to Turf Moor the Home of Burnley Football Club for "the Home Coming".

Ticket price is £60 or £50 if you fill a table of 10, and with the money raised going to the Children's Charity "The Variety Club", make a date the 28th of November, its a night that will not only fill your heart with pride, it will fill you mind with once in a life time memories. To book your seat for this night to beat all nights contact Gavin at gavin@ukcelebrityevents.co.uk or  visit his website at www.ukcelebrityevents.co.uk
