Wayne Thomas has been sold to Southampton this afternoon in a deal worth £1.2 Million. The tough defender in his last year of a three year deal had made over 50 appearances in his time at the club but now moves to the South Coast to help the struggling Saints.

His time at Burnley was difficult having had times out due to injury and suspensions, although despite being a strong tackler some of the red card decisions could be argued were a little dubious. He never had the chance to show the Clarets faithful why Steve Cotterill had so much faith in his abilities, something that seemed to be appearing in some of his recent appeareances.

Steve Cotterill told the official website:

"After two weeks of dialogue and five or six bids later we got to a stage where, at £1.2m, it was probably too good an offer to turn down.

"I didn't want to lose him, but as disappointed as I am he wanted a fresh start and I can't begrudge the kid that."

"We got him on a free transfer from Stoke and selling him for that fee (£1.2 Million) two years later is first class business.

He is expected to start on Saturday against Norwich at Carrow Road.
