Just three days after the highs of Saturday’s win over Queens Park Rangers, the Clarets are on the road to the Walkers Stadium to face Rob Kelly’s Leicester City. Burnley completed the double over the Foxes last season, and it was in fact the only double we achieved throughout the 2005/06 season.

We played them at the Walkers Stadium in October as we started to pick up points following our terrible start to the campaign. An Ade Akinbiyi goal silenced the boo boys who made their feeling towards Ade known throughout the match, but Ade had the last laugh as he turned in a Wade Elliott shot to bring the points back to Lancashire.

Then, just four weeks later, the Foxes were sent packing in a game that was won with a John Spicer header, but will possibly be more remembered for that goal that Ade Akinbiyi had disallowed.

Spicer gave us the lead from a Michael Duff cross on 39 minutes, but Ade hammered a shot into the top corner just two minutes later at the Cricket Field end, which was housing the bitter Leicester fans, that in the ref’s opinion saw Ade foul a defender in the build up. It was pure strength that had enabled Ade to shrug off the defender, but the ref was having none of it, a very harsh decision.

The double over Leicester saw us occupy a play-off position for the first time that season, and we would go one better and climb to fifth on Boxing Day before plummeting following the sale of the former Leicester man.

Back to today though, and Rob Kelly is now in charge of Leicester following the sacking of Craig Levein in January. Kelly won three out of four of his games in charge as caretaker manager and was given the job until the end of the season. After steering the Foxes to safety, the Leicester board then gave Kelly the job permanently.

New signings include the experienced Welsh international midfielder Andy Johnson, a free from West Brom; Darren Kenton, a right-back whose previous clubs include Southampton and Norwich; Josh Low, a midfielder taken from Northampton; and Northern Irish defender Gareth McAuley, signed from Lincoln.

On Saturday they began their Championship campaign with a 2-0 defeat at Luton with very uninspiring performance that has left a section of supporters less than happy. They will be looking for a big performance from their team on Tuesday night, let’s hope they don’t get it.

There are still some big names at Leicester, including former Machester City man Danny Tiatto, former Celtic pair Momo Sylla and Rab Douglas, and former Nottingham Forest midfield man Gareth Williams, a very good player at this level.

Onto the team news, and the Clarets will once again be without Danny Karbassiyoon and Danny Coyne as they recover from their knee injuries, but otherwise it’s once again a healthy squad that travels.

Leicester welcome back defender Patrick Kisnorbo from suspension, whilst Midfielder James Wesolowski will miss out with a thigh injury. Paul Henderson will continue to fill in for Rab Douglas in goal, who remains doubtful with a shoulder injury.

To come away from anything from this game would be a good result following the win over QPR, and with Leicester misfiring on Saturday, this is the chance for the Clarets to build on their three points, and set us up nicely for a War of the Roses clash at the weekend with Sheffield Wednesday.
