Rudi Grenfell talks about the Pirates & his life as a volunteer

There's a piece on the offy site by Phil Westren on the importance of volunteers,
Quote: "Thanks are always due to whoever helps out in whatever way, something also to be enjoyed. It makes one feel part of the team, and can be a very rewarding experience - a lifetime's hobby to many."

As a fan it started for me in the 70s watching my cousin Nobby Roberts play for the Pirates, at around the same time I started playing and was one of the original minis that started off the mini rugby scene in Penzance and many of that team I still see today on a regular basis.

My input as a volunteer started last season with putting up posters in shops in Penwith and Kerrier and delivering about 200 flyers every week through households in Penwith, which has meant meeting some really great people and having some good discussions about The Cornish Pirates

I've been really amazed at how many people love The Pirates and feel a sense of belonging through family or friends that have played there recently or in times gone by.

This volunteering lead to helping out on matchdays on the gate, selling programmes water proof macs & even sweeping puddles of water at Kenwyn before the Quins match.

Camborne ground & main stand

This years duties at Camborne have already started with the painting of the changing rooms, and facilities around the ground.

Whatever you do as a volunteer leaves a good feeling and its nice to be recognised by name by Dicky Evans etc. & from the Pirates, all of whom make you feel very welcome.

So if you're considering it, take it from me its well worth it !
