UEFA have stated that they will investigate Anderlecht substitute Nenad Jestrovic for his alleged racial assault on Liverpool's Mohamed Sissoko, during the Champions League game between the two sides. Jestrovic has claimed that Sissoko swore at him, but referee Kim Milton Nielsen had no hesitation in sending off Jestrovic for whatever he said in reply. Upon receiving Nielsen's report UEFA have pledged to begin an inquiry into the alleged ‘insult’.

But Jestrovic strongly denies any racial abuse stating:

"I can't understand why I was sent off."

"I approached the referee after the game and he said it was for an obscenity."

And his coach Frank Vercauteren will not back his player, if he is found guilty of racial abuse:

"If it was racial abuse, I cannot condone that," said Vercauteren.

"The other player should also have been sent off as well. He said something similar.

"These things should not be said, but I do not intend to punish my player further."
