Newcastle close in on Spanish star.

Newcastle United are tonight rumoured to be very close to signing Spanish striker Albert Luque from Deportivo La Coruna. The player was left out of Deportivo’s Intertoto Cup final against Marseille, prmoting speculation that a deal could be done as early as tomorrow. Manager Joaquin Caparros confirmed that they were not relying on Luque stating:

"The situation today is that we will not count on Luque for this important match."

And Luque’s father has confirmed that a deal was close stating:

"The accord between the two clubs is imminent," said Rafael Luque.

"Luque and Newcastle have already closed on an accord."
