Real Madrid make official Luque approach

Albert Luque could be Real Madrid's first Spaniard to join Los Merengues in five years time. The Spanish giants have contacted Deportivo for the Catalonian striker. Depor manager Joaquín Caparrós left Luque out of the squad for the upcoming Intertoto tie against NK Slaven Koprivnica. Deportivo won the first leg but with some strain (1-0 ).

'Depor Sports' a offical Deportivo La Coruña magazine confirms that Real Madrid have made a approach for the 27-year old Alberto Luque. A €15 million fee is being mentioned but the price could drop if a player would be offered in part exchange. Guti, Juanfran, Soldado and Portillo are all candidates for being used as bait.

Up to now Real Madrid chairman Florentino Pérez bought twelve foreigners from seven nationalities. Although Pérez said back in 2000, when he was assigned as chairman, that he would buy many Spanish players.

Albert Luque is a product of the Barcelona youth academy but he never made it into the first team squad.

Liverpool are reportedly also monitoring Luque's situation and they could be well tempted to make a late offer. Although they just finalised the transfer of Peter Crouch , Benitez is widely known as firm admirer.
