Spurs bid 18 million for Baptista

Julio Baptista is wanted by many powerful Premiership teams. Tottenham Hotspurs now seem to have taken the lead in the battle to get him, since they have offered Sevilla 18 million euros. The Gunners are being investigated by the FA as their offer for ‘the Beast’ might be illegal. This Spurs offer beats the Gunners one, who had offered around 15 million euros. However, these numbers are not certain, as Sevilla’s president José María del Nido stated:

“An English team has doubled Arsenal’s offer”

The Gunners are now under investigation by the FA because of their approach to Julio Baptista. Del Nido spoke about this:

“If they had contacted him to offer a new contract, they would have broken the FIFA rules which forbid that another team can try to sign a player under contract without the permission of the entity that owns his rights.”

The FA is suspicious of Arsenal since manager Arsene Wenger spoke to Baptista in Brazil some days ago, and Sevilla, in return, stated that Arsenal had no right to speak to their player.
