Genoa and Empoli back in Serie A.

Genoa won Serie B finishing on 76 points from 42 matches, 2 points ahead of the also promoted Empoli, with the final promotion place being decided by a play off battle between Perugia, Torino, Treviso and Ascoli. Finishing just outside the play off places was Hellas Verona in 7th one point adrift, it was a relatively good season for Hellas, well relative to last season anyway, but too many draws cost the Verona side dearly, in what would have been a fairy tale return to the top flight 20 years after winning the Italian title for the only time in their history.

Relegated are Pescara Catanzaro and Venezia who travel to the relative oblivion of Serie C1, and they will be followed by either Vicenza or Triestina, who face each other in a relegation play off.

But well done to Genoa, a 10 year absence from the top flight was only marred by Verona not getting promoted, but that is probably just me.
