French defender claims Newcastle interest

Newcastle, Stuttgart and Marseille are all chasing Gregory Vignal, according to the player himself. Vignal is currently on loan at Rangers from Liverpool, but will be a free transfer come the end of the season. Rangers had offered him a permanent contract but that has been rejected out of hand, with the player preferring pastures new.

Speaking to French magazine But, Vignal stated:

"The Scottish officials didn't come back to me and I didn't make a step in their direction."

"If they want me to stay, they know my intentions and my demands.
"I have not decided what my future will be yet.

"Liverpool are keen to let me leave for free with a percentage on the next transfer or by having an option on a young player.

"I know Stuttgart are interested, their officials directly contacted my agent. If the club will play in the Champions League they could become an attractive challenge.

"Anyway, I am in no hurry. I am looking for stability with a three or four year contract.

"I just had a phone call with Jean-Alain Boumsong. He told me The Magpies are looking for a left full-back.

"He talked about me to Graeme Souness. The club has made a contact with one of my agents.

"But I also noticed there could be a lot of changing at Marseille. I have been thinking about a return to France for a while, considering the big dates that will come for the French national team.

"But l'OM has to play in the Champions League or Uefa Cup."
