Bayern star hopeful of Chelsea comeback

Bayern Munich's Roy Makaay is hopeful of being fit to face Chelsea in the Champions League quarter-final first leg on Wednesday. The Dutch striker was considered doubtful after limping out of Bayern's 3-0 win over VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday and was subsequently unable to train. But now they say the injury was not as serious as first thought:

"Coming off against Wolfsburg was purely a precautionary measure," Makaay told German media on Monday. "We were leading 3-0, we had Claudio Pizarro injured and there was no need to go on risking me."

And it will be a relief to both management and fans alike:

"Losing both our main strikers would be somewhat problematic," Bayern coach Felix Magath said on Monday. "But I hope the problem with Roy is in hand by Wednesday."
