Newcastle eye Saviola?

River Plate have stated that they will no be attempting to Lure Javier Saviola back to the club in the summer, as was being speculated. At present Saviola is on loan to Monaco, but there was constant speculation that he would return home once the season in France was over but River President José María Aguilar stated:

"It is impossible for River to ever take Saviola back," he said. "The money that he earns in Europe is completely out of our range.

"Besides, there are a number of other European clubs that are interested in him."

So it looks like Barcelona will be offloading him elsewhere and one place that has been suggested by the Spanish Media is Newcastle United. They have allegedly inquired as to his availability, and it does look like Souness will certainly have to replace one striker with Bellamy unlikely to return, and possibly two, if Shearer sticks to his word and retires.

Saviola for his part is not saying much, but did drop a hint to a move to the Premiership in a recent interview stating:

“Life in England is something that interests me, perhaps in the future I will play there.”
