van Bommel set for Spurs?

PSV Eindhoven’s Mark van Bommel could be set for a switch to the Premiership and Spurs. He will be available on a free at the end of the season and his agent claims he could be about to sign a pre-contract with Spurs. German Bundesliga clubs Schalke and Borussia Dortmund are also said to be interested, but it is believed that van Bommel himself prefers a move to Spurs and with Martin Jol earlier waxing lyrical about the player it would seem only a matter of time.

"We're hoping to agree a deal within the next 14 days. We're in the middle of discussions with a few clubs," said the player's agent Rob Jansen.

"Yes it is true that Mark could sign for Tottenham. An announcement about his future will be made in due course. We still have to finalise a few things with other clubs."

And from the Spurs boss Martin Jol:

"We are enchanted with Van Bommel - he is a midfielder that would fit in my team,"
