Becks in the USSR

By European Football
January 31 2005

Just before the Uefa-deadline ended last Monday Russia announced it intention to become an official candidate for the Euro 2012, throwing up the very real possibility of a tournament in Russia. And by de-fault Moscow, which has to be one of the best party cities on earth. A bit dangerous perhaps, but your never lacking in entertainment. And of course should Beckham still be playing (which is unlikely if I am honest) it will give me a chance for headlines like the one above. Which again being honest was nicked off a Swiss goat herder just as he went to do strange and depraved things to Heidi?

Anyway back to a semblance of reality. Russian football federation boss Koloskov has promised new stadium projects in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities.

Russia will be in competition with Italy, Greece, Poland-Ukraine and Croatia-Hungary.
