Giovane Elber has left French-club Lyon after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

Elber’s future was in doubt after he has not on the clubs squad list for the second half of the season.

The French FA states that only 4 non-EU players can be registered per team and Elber was not amongst the 4 that were registered for Lyon.

There was a row between club and player after he ignored the club’s doctor’s advice not to have a second ankle operation and then criticised the quality of medical care at Lyon.

The 32-year-old could be on his way south to Spain after Levante have reportedly shown an interest in him.

A Lyon Spokesperson said:

Giovane Elber had been officially summoned by Olympique Lyon officials and he met with the chairman on Friday to find a common agreement."

"The contract which linked the club and the player has been called off in terms which are satisfying for both sides which starts with effect on January 28."
