Lazio swoop for Chelsea star

Lazio are plotting a loan swoop for Chelsea's Scott Parker in January. The Rome club have been alerted to the midfielder's abilities by his former Charlton Athletic team-mate Paolo Di Canio, who is a huge admirer of the England international. Parker has been largely on the sidelines at Stamford Bridge under Jose Mourinho, even though his attitude in training has impressed the Portuguese boss.

Chelsea need a strong squad for their assault on four fronts in 2005, but there have been suggestions that the West Londoners may be willing to off-load a couple of their fringe players.

Shrewd Mourinho could even rule the possibility of farming Parker out to Serie A as an important step in testing the 24-year-old's capabilities and furthering his footballing education.

Lazio are known to be pursuing a midfielder with Parker's attributes and a six-month loan deal might suit all parties.

Italian sources claim contact has already been made between the two clubs and that Chelsea would even be prepared to part-finance the temporary transfer such is their belief that Parker will eventually prove himself with The Blues.
