Trapattoni wants Baggio and Maldini back

Giovanni Trapattoni may be on the verge of presuading Italian legends Roberto Baggio and Paulo Maldini out of international retirement for one last try at some silverware in Portugal this summer. He was a bit reluctant to talk about it at the press conference before the Portugal game but he did drop this hint:

"I will speak to Baggio and Maldini," said Trapattoni.

"That does not mean that they will or will not come to the European Championships."

Baggio of course has confirmed his retirment this week from football alltogether but sources close to the player believe that a trip to Euro 2004 would provide the perfect swansong for an amazing carrear. This season has of course seen Baggio reach the 200 goal mark in Seria A.

But it is Maldini that Trap wants back the most out of the 2, his form this season has been nothing short of superb and his calmness undewr pressure and ability to be just where he is needed at the right time, will only add to Italy's strengths.

And surely Malidini deserves to lift a trophy more than anyone with all his years loyal service.
