Argentina's latest hype and man-of-the-moment Gonzalo Higuaín has received a seven-year contract offer from Real Madrid, according to his father Jorge. The River Plate striker has been all over the news lately for supposedly turning down a France call-up by Raymond Domenech. Gonzalo's father, Higuaín Senior, is concerned that everything is happening too quickly for the Brest-born attacker.

"There were initially his two goals against Boca Juniors, then his call-up to the France team and then a concrete offer from Real Madrid," he told L'Equipe.

"Having weighed up the consequences, we preferred to protect him.

"Gonzalo is shy. It's too much to take up a challenge like that one.

"Remember, six months ago, he was still playing reserve football with River.

"It is not easy to make a decision for the whole of your life. Especially when nothing is pressing. All I want is that my son is happy."

MSI, the group of investors that own the rights to West Ham duo Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano, obtained 50 percent of the player's value in terms of a future transfer recently.

"I do not know what they hope for from this transaction," countered Higuaín Senior. "They forget that my son was a minor and that, without my signature, nobody can do anything."
