Abandoned: Two Games Called Off Due To High Winds

Northampton Town were thwarted in their efforts to claim a crucial win against Huddersfield Town today, as the match was abandoned with the hosts leading 1-0.

Referee Nigel Miller from Durham called a halt to play six minutes before the break after an advertising hoarding was blown off the roof of the away stand and landed among the Huddersfield supporters. No fans appeared to be seriously injured in the incident.

In the gale force winds a second advertising hoarding then blew onto the pitch, and the referee decided that the match should be abandoned on safety grounds.

Marc Richards had put the hosts into the lead thanks to a fourth-minute strike, following a pass from Paul Trollope.

Another game to be affected by the weather, was the promotion clash between Mansfield and Oxford.

Referee Howard Webb stunned fans when he called the game off at half-time due to high winds.

The game itself hadn't been too interesting however, providing little entertainment for the fans.
