Six of the games are at The Racecourse with Grimsby Town arriving on Saturday. Darren, however, urges his players to ‘get on the ball’ for the promotion run-in.

Ferguson believes Wrexham on occasions lack the strength of their convictions. They are now down to 11th in the table and have taken only a point from a possible nine. Ferguson says the side ‘bottled it’ in the 1-0 defeat by then leaders, Bristol City and he says the 6-0 defeat at Bournemouth four days later was the ‘worst night’ of his career.

Ferguson spoken to the Evening Leader: “We have to keep things in perspective and looking at the last 13 games of the season, I feel we have to be looking to win eight of them to make sure we push ourselves into the play-offs.”

Outspoken Ferguson, however, pulls no punches about Wrexham’s poor performance at Bristol City and then Bounremouth. He says giving a goal away in only the third minute made it even harder at Ashton Gate.

He said: “I have to admit I think we bottled it on the day. It was disappointing the occasion got to us. We needed to have the courage to get on the ball and play it.
“Against Bristol we seemed to be lacking the strength of out convictions. We can’t afford to be doing that against top teams as they take advantage and score goals. It was as poor a showing as I can remember from a Wrexham side that I have been involved with and we must improve - rapidly - over the coming months of the season.”

Skipper Ferguson makes no excuses either for what happened at Bournemouth. He said: “If we were looking to bounce back, and that was the plan, then we came in for a rude awakening. Obviously the last thing we needed was to find ourselves behind again so early in the match.
 

“But after getting over that third minute goal, I felt we more than competed and were the better side for the rest of the first-half, although without looking like scoring. Just when we looked like heading back to the dressing-room to regroup at only one goal down, we then let in a silly second moments before the break.
 

“That, combined with the dismissal of Steve Roberts early in the second-half, really meant the game was getting beyond us and their third, minutes later, just seemed our fate. What happened in the last five minutes only rubbed salt into the wounds and turned it into the worst night of my career. The long journey home was horrible!”

Ferguson’s fifth booking of the season kept him out of the 1-1 home draw against Rushden and Diamonds. He was due to return at Oldham on Tuesday, but that was postponed due to frost.
