Watford are refusing to speculate on news that Tony Adams is set to take over as manager at Vicarage Road. Watford are without a manager since sacking Gianluca Vialli and most of the backroom staff including former England captain Ray Wilkins.

Several managers have been linked with the post but it is thought that Adams will be the new manager.

Adams has had a distinguished career with Arsenal, his only club, winning several championships, FA Cups, League Cups and European trophies. Adams has also captained England and represented his country at World and European Championships.

Adams has always stated that he would like to become a manager at many at Highbury felt that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was grooming Adams to replace him. However Adams does not appear to want to wait and has expressed interest in the Brentford and Brigton vacancies as well as the Watford job.

The club refused to talk about Adams and only said "It is club policy not to comment on speculation.

"We will only make an announcement when there's an announcement to be made."
