Burnley have given a trial to ex Blackburn defender Marlon Broomes. Broomes is out of contract following a short term contract at Sheffield Wednesday.

It is believed that The Owls were keen to keep the former England Under-21 player but negotiations between the two fell apart.

Broomes joined Grimsby Town on-loan in September of last year and scored the equaliser in the 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the Worthington Cup. Grimsby used the full 3 months allowed for a player of Broomes age and Blackburn agreed to release the player and for him to become a permanent member of the Blundell Park team. However Broomes opted to join relegation rivals Sheffield Wednesday until the end of the season.

Broomes will now look to kick-start his career in a very familiar part of the country with Burnley, fierce rivals of Blackburn.
