The Blades wrapped up the deal just hours ago and beat of late interest from Crystal Palace.

Curtis has only made seven starts for Graeme Souness this season, and will benefit from regular first team action at Bramall Lane.

The Rovers loanee will make an instant debut in tommorows game against Grimsby.

Blades boss Neil Warnock said on the Blades official site "The opportunity came along to sign John and I had to make a quick decision at the weekend because Crystal Palace were interested."

"I haven't guaranteed him a first-team place but he's got a great attitude and can play both full-back or centre-half which is a great help."
