Aston Villa winger Steve Stone has snubbed the chance to move on loan to Sheffield Wednesday. The former England midfielder was offered the chance to join The Owls on loan but the move fell through over Stone's wage demands.

Stone is out of favour with Graham Taylor at Villa Park and Owls boss Terry Yorath is keen to sign a high quality midfielder after bids Leeds duo David Batty and Stephen McPhail fell through.

Yorath was cleary disappointed that Stone snubbed the move.

"We have worked on this one but it has not proved possible.

"I feel he would have been the right sort for us.

"He is the type who could have come in and done a good job"
