Sandiacre Town 194-8 beat Denby by 2 wickets

This was a very even contest between two sides desperate to win. Stuart Poplar won the toss and elected to bat first. They were made to work hard for their runs against a keen attack in which Naeem Akhter (2-33) and John Jordison (5-68) were outstanding. The Denby innings was held together by a fine knock from their Dutch player Nick Statham who made 59. He was run out when he lingered outside the popping crease following an lbw appeal.

Sandiacre were made to fight for their runs by tight bowling and some desperate fielding. There were crucial knocks from Imi Ahmed (44), Naeem Akhtar (47) and Simon Kinselle (31), but with two balls to go they still needed six runs. The outcome was settled by bowler Paul Standring who hit Chris Meyer for 6. They don't come much closer than that.

Dunstall 104-4 beat Langley Mill 103 by 6 wickets

Dunstall were well on top in this match. The Millers struggled from the start and apart from 27 from Simon Lacey their batting let them down. An inspired spell from Alan Gough (5-23) helped to dismiss them in 44 overs. Dunstall polished off the runs in 28.4 overs, with Paul Shaw making 29 and Jamie Benstead 26 not out.

Wirksworth 200 lost to Ockbrook 314-2 by 114 runs

The Ockbrook batting was devastating. They plundered the Wirksworth bowling to such good effect that they were able to declare with 10 overs still in hand. Johnny Owen (107 not out) stole the show, but there were impressive performances from Trevor Smith (80), Jamie Guthrie (51) and Dave Hallack who was 50 not out. There was a creditable response from Wirksworth, but they were finally bowled out in the 51st over. Kevin Hunter made 43, Adnan Naeem 49 and 15 year old Paul Thompson 43. For Ockbrook Brian Gladwin took 4-50 and Chris Windmill 3-50.

Ilkeston Rutland 184-8 beat Alvaston & Boulton 116 by 68 runs

This win gave Ilkeston a welcome 27 points. They were without some key players but they played as a team. Nick Dawson continued his current good form in making 53 and helped his side to a decent total. Steve Ottewell, back in the team after a spell with the seconds, was the pick of the A&B bowlers taking 4-48. A & B rely heavily on the batting of Anthony Woolley but he was dismissed for 27 and , apart from Mohammed Ayub who made 30, the rest succumbed to the bowling of Ian Banks (3-19) and Martin Brandrick (5-15). There was a significant contribution from the England Ladies wicket-keeper Jane Cassar, who claimed four victims, three caught and one stumped.

Quarndon 250-8 beat Chesterfield 225 by 25 runs

This was a thrilling match which, late in the game, seemed to be going Chesterfield's way. Quarndon posted a big score, thanks to good batting from Billy Bagshaw (61), Nathan Dumelow (40) and Mark Tournier (51). For Chesterfield Dave Adams took 3-67 and Ian Jones 3-62. The Chesterfield reply was going along nicely while Alan Gofton and Dave Adams were there and the score was 167-3, but when Gofton was out for 58 wickets began to tumble at regular intervals. There was still a chance with Adams batting so well, but he was out after he had reached a brilliant hundred and the innings folded with 8 balls to go. Kevin Newbold took 4-51, Duncan Player 3-36 and Nathan Dumelow chipped in with 3-10, including a hat-trick.

Sawley & LE Park 205 drew with Clifton 198-9

Another close finish with both sides using up their 55 overs. Sawley batted first and were indebted to Ahmed Gondal who scored 53. Clifton's Simon Moore took 3-25 and Lee Ali 3-55. Derbyshire's Tom Lungley shone with the bat in making 40, but the vital innings was by Kamran Afzaal who was still there at the close on 75 not out, with 8 runs needed. Gondal took 3-70, but Sawley found themselves punished yet again, with two points deducted for slow over-rates.
