Sandiacre Town 242-8 beat Ilkeston Rutland 138 by 104 runs

The scouts were out at Sandiacre’s ground and at Ockbrook. Both sides batted first, hoping for maximum points, and both sides won, so Sandiacre emerged as Premier League Champions, relying on the 5 points lead they had following Saturday’s games.

John Trueman was Sandiacre’s hero, batting with a runner because he was seriously incapacitated with a hamstring injury he battled his way to 73, and with support from Naeem Akhtar (39) and Rob Attwood (44 not out) they posted a big score which turned out to be too much for Ilkeston Rutland. Matt Boyer (32) offered some resistance but Sandiacre’s bowlers were taking no prisoners, and they battered away until they submitted, with John Jordison taking 3-21 and Urfan Ul Haq 3-36.

Ockbrook will be disappointed, but on reflection they will concede that it is a fair result because Sandiacre beat Ockbrook on the two occasions they met this season.

Ockbrook 248-5 beat Dunstall 88 by 160 runs

Still smarting from their defeat at Clifton on Saturday Ockbrook went into this game with real determination, and this was reflected in their batting and bowling. Runs came freely from Johnny Owen (45), Dave Hallack (64), Dave Wood (60 not out) and James Cokayne (40). Then Dunstall had to face a furious attack which saw them dismissed in 29 overs, with Ian Darlington (4-17) demolishing the top order and Alan Green finishing it off with 4-21. It was thrilling stuff to watch.

Dunstall will be disappointed with their last two games, but they can reflect on a good season overall.

Elsewhere in the Premier League Alvaston & Boulton lost to Clifton by 81 runs. Clifton scored 246-7 (Kamran Afzaal 54, Ant Botha 56, Li Ali 55) and dismissed A&B for 165.

Denby skittled Quarndon out for 46, winning by 8 wickets. Michael Deane took 5-21 and Ben Perry-Taylor 4 –14 for Denby.

Langley Mill beat Chesterfield by 142 runs. For the Millers Adrian Marsh made 65, Simon Lacey 57 and Shafiq Dad 56, with David Adams taking 6-59. Sam Patel took 5-43 as Chesterfield were dismissed for 161.

Wirksworth gained their first home win of the season, beating Sawley by 49 runs. Andy Barlow had a great match for Wirksworth, scoring 94 not out in a total of 176 and taking 7-30 as Sawley were bowled out for 127. Neil Smith took 5-35 for Sawley.
