Abbey Glass Division 1

West Hallam 169 beat Spondon 117 by 52 runs

Whilst their erstwhile rivals Marehay were without a game West Hallam took advantage by gaining 27 points from their game with Spondon. This put paid to Spondon’s title hopes, but places West Hallam in the favourite’s position with just two games to go. Campbell Ogilvie’s wonderful season continued with top score (52) in West Hallam’s total and then he took 3-33 as Spondon were sent packing. Steve Attenborough (3-17) gave him good support at the other end. There were good performances for Spondon from skipper Peter Cook, who took 4-55, and when they batted from Joe Kellogg who made 41.

Shipley Hall 257-8 drew with Morton 151-7

This was a game Shipley needed to win, but they were left frustrated as Morton hung on for a draw with three wickets left. It was another good day for Shipley’s overseas player, Harvinder Singh Sodhi, who was 122 not out in Shipley’s 257-8, and then chipped in with 3-41 as Morton resisted stubbornly. Neil Cox played his part for Shipley, taking 3-26. Three players stood out for Morton, James Miller who took 5-79, and when they batted Geoff Deane who made 50 and John Aspinall who scored 33.

Elvaston 242 lost to Nutbrook 270-4 by 28 runs

Nutbrook are firmly bedded at the bottom of the Division, but they have players in their side who can turn a match, as they showed on this occasion. Batting first they were indebted to Matt Sisson who made 102 and Richard Henshaw who was 66 not out. Elvaston were missing some key players, no doubt with their minds on the Village Cup and Lords, but this is a club with strength in depth, and the replacements acquitted themselves well, Eddy Hodgson with 87 and Andy Johnson 30 not out. Danny Brooks produced a good spell for Nutbrook, taking 4-27.

Lullington Park 252-5 beat Staveley Welfare 162 by 90 runs

Lullington are now out of the title race, but they gave notice in this match of what might have been if they had shown more consistency. They are a side full of talent and in this match that talent was seen in the outstanding performance of young Andy Goodwin. He scored 105 as Lullington piled on the runs, assisted on the way by David Mudd (51) and Dave Hartley (40), and then when Staveley batted he took 6-49. Best performance for Staveley was by Peter Camm who scored 71.

Selston Town 145-3 beat Belper Meadows 141-9 by 7 wickets

Selston Town will probably be relegated, but on their day they are capable of beating any team in this Division as they showed on Saturday.. Good bowling by John Barnett (3-43), Scott Godfrey (3-43) and Ian Wood (3-34) confined Belper to a low score, though Tob Tomlinson (50) and Andy Goodall (38) promised a higher total. Then Chris Dunn played the captain's part in scoring 89 not out to see Selston home with plenty to spare. Ben Tait took 3-29 for Belper.

Abbey Glass Division 2

Alfreton 90 lost to Ticknall 189 by 99 runs

Nothing can stop Ticknall from winning this Division as they confirmed by winning their fourteenth match of the season. Ian Gillion made 82 and Rob Dumelow 32, with Alfreton’s Tom Young bowling well to take 6-37. Andy Buckley (31) was Alfreton’s top scorer, but the honours went to Ticknall’s bowlers, Luke Harvey taking 4-28 and Graham Chamberlain 5-23.

Mickleover 137 lost to Duffield 139-1 by 9 wickets

A comprehensive win which puts Duffield well on course for promotion. Robert Heath made 41 for Mickleover, but the Duffield bowlers were on top with Chris Elliott taking 4-26 and Ed Sims 3-37. Duffield lost one wicket before Elliott (74 not out) and Peter Jordan (40 not out) saw them home for a comfortable win.

Rolleston 212 drew with Denby 2nds 182-9

With three gaining promotion this winnig draw confirms Rolleston as favourite for the third spot. Denby 2nds remain in second place but promotion is denied to them because their first team are in the Premier League. For Rolleston Chris colley made 45, Paul Allen 48 and Dave Bowering 35, with Denby’s Simon Mann taking 4-44. When Denby batted Steven Payne made 41 and Trevor Sparham 37, but they were thirty runs short in the end with Alan Mellor taking 5-39 and Graham Dent 4-28.

Brailsford 176-9 drew with Little Eaton 187

Neither of these sides had won a game all season, and so it remained after this even contest. Best batting for Little Eaton was by Paul Sinclair (46) and Tim Carlier who was 31 not out, and for Brailsford Wayne Tunstall scored 53. Bowling for Brailsford Tom Windscheffel took 3-48 and Pat Lawless 3-36, and for Little Eaton Andy Jeffery took 3-50 and Kevin Baldwin 3-66.

Allestree 240-5 drew with Ockbrook 2nds 261-5 dec

The batsmen were on top in this game, with Ockbrook’s the more rampant. Nigel Sulley made 62, Lindsey Morgan 61 and Russell Sexton 47 in double quick time so that Ockbrook were able to declare after 42 overs. For Allestree Dave Gifford took 4-52. The extra overs were no help because Allestree held out quite comfortably, with good performances from Matt Sirrell (44), Andy Layton (43), Chris Ruck (36) and Paul Lynne (52 not out).

Sandiacre Town 2nds 133-4 beat Aston on Trent 132 by 6 wickets.

Mohammed Ashfaq made 63 for Aston, with Sandiacre’s Mike Ruhrmund taking 5-37. It was a comfortable win for Sandiacre with Ben Ruhrmund making 40 and Nick Briars 32.

Derbyshire Building Society Division 3A

Elvaston 2nds strengthened their position at the top of this Division with a big win over Spondon 2nds after dismissing them for 148. Matt White, who had taken 3-32 scored 56 not out and Danny Randall added 43 not out in an eight wicket win. Ambergate are in second place, sandwiched between Elvaston and Alvaston & Boulton 2nds. If these three go up there will be five second elevens in Abbey Glass Division 2 next season, none of which will be eligible for promotion to Division 2 as the rules stand at the moment. Ambergate were helped by a 27 point win against Rolls Royce. Hard luck on Swarkestone who have been in contention for some time. They lost narrowly to A&B 2nds after posting a decent score 209-5, with John Guthrie 78 not out and Michael Scott 53 not out. For A&B Gary Smith made 48 and Keith Gaskin 67.
