Marehay 119-7 drew with West Hallam 223-6 dec

After a long period when they were clear favourites for the one promotional spot Marehay are close to being overtaken. West Hallam are now eight points behind them with a game in hand. Two other teams are also in the hunt, Shipley Hall, who also have a game in hand, and Spondon who are 18 points behind Marehay. West Hallam play Spondon next Saturday and Spondon play Marehay on September 7. So, there is an exciting end of season in prospect. On Saturday West Hallam clearly had the better of Marehay in a match which was curtailed to 45.4 overs. Skipper Campbell Ogilvie and Chris Rudd laid the foundation to West Hallam’s big score with a stand of 148 for the third wicket. Ogilvie was out lbw when he was one short of his century and Rudd was out for 68. John Longden took 3-68 for Marehay, and their batsmen struggled against a keen attack with Dan Haddon taking 3-43. They were saved from defeat by Rob Durant who battled his way to 41 not out.

Morton 133-2 beat Lullington Park 131 by 8 wickets

Morton have been struggling near the bottom of the table all season, but there is some real talent in the season and it came out in this big win aginst Lullington. Two players stood out, James Miller who took 5-19 as Lullington were dismissed for a low score in 36 overs, and Geoff Deane who carried his bat for 66 not out. Howard Dytham scored 33 for Lullington but this just wasn’t their day.

Nutbrook 103 lost to Shipley Hall 106-1 by 9 wickets

Nutbrook’s position at the bottom of the table is now hopeless. They will be the first to admit that they haven’t played well this season, and Saturday was another occasion when their batting failed. Richard Cutts (35) offered some resistance, but it was Shipley’s day, with Harvinder Singh Sodhi taking 4-24 and Simon Lacey 4-20. Shipley lost Matt Hardwick for 41, but Mark Starr steered them home with 33 not out.

Spondon 217 drew with Elvaston 131-7

After their heroics last week in the National Village Competition this was a bit of a come-down for Elvaston. Spondon set them a stiff target, with Peter Davies leading the way with 63. For Elvaston Ian Hall took 3-44, but apart from Andy Johnson, who was 36 not out, their batting failed and they were left struggling well short of their target and only three wickets left. For Spondon Joe Ashdown took 3-27.

Staveley Welfare 161-8 beat Selston Town 104 by 57 runs

Staveley’s win takes them well clear of the relegation zone. Martin Camm made 46 and John Douglas 39, with Selston’s John Barnett taking 3-28 and Ian Wood 3-60. Chris Dunn was again Selston’s top scorer with 39, but they came up against the very accurate attack of Tim Hoare (5-30) and Peter Camm 5-32.

Ticknall 220-7 beat Mickleover 216-4 by 3 wickets

This win gives Ticknall a healthy lead at the top of this division, but they had to fight hard to make it. Mickleover are out of the title race but their effort in this match will convince them that they could have been there with a little more consistency during the season. When they batted Mark Heath led the way with 89 not out, supported by Andy Evans (38) and Chris Mottram(53). Ticknall’s reply saw Luke Harvey make 68, Ian Gillyon 45, Rob Dumelow 34 and Aiden Melen 38 not out. For Mickleover Stuart Divers took 3-58.

Duffield 82-2 beat Allestree 81 by 8 wickets

This was Duffield’s tenth win and keeps them on course for promotion. Rain meant that the game was reduced to 40 overs a side, but Allestree were dismissed in the 37th over, with Chris Elliott taking 4-18 and Ed Sims 4-24. Matt Sirrell defended stubbornly, making 31, but when Duffield batted it was an easy ride, with Phil Jordan making 29 not out.

Little Eaton 115 lost to Rolleston 206-7 by 91 runs

Down at the bottom Little Eaton know their fate, but they keep battling on. They were well beaten in this game by a Rolleston side which still retains an interest in promotion. Batting first Rolleston were indebted to Chris Colley who scored 106. Steve Dolby put in a good performance for Little Eaton, taking 3-30 and then scoring 39, and for Rolleston Gareth Dent took 3-43 and Kevin Dent 3-25.

Denby 2nds 145-8 lost to Sandiacre Town 2nds 146-5 by 5 wickets

This was Denby’s first defeat of the season, but they retain second place. Rain reduced it to 28 overs a side with Denby batting first. Phil Glenn (47) and Lee Atkin (51) gave promise of a big score, but when they were out wickets began to tumble, with Mike Ruhrmund taking 4-23. Nigel Briars made 32 in Sandiacre’s reply, but the chief architect of their victory was Steve Brown who was 54 not out. For Denby Simon Bria took 3-27.

Aston on Trent 238-3 drew with Alfreton 203-7

There were plenty of runs in this game for both sides, with Aston’s run machine Syed Faisal setting the scene with another century (138), and Shakeel Aslam adding 38 not out. It was a brave reply from Alfreton which saw Andy Buckley score 62, Martin Linacre 52 and Matt Linacre 39, with Aston’s Rafaqat Ali taking 4-35.

Ockbrook 2nds 218-8 beat Brailsford 150 by 68 runs

The top order performed well for Ockbrook, with good knocks from Clive Crocker (46), Nigel Sulley (45), Lindsey Morgan (41)and Paul Darlington (31). For Brailsford Tom Windscheffel took 4-52, and when they batted the only real resistance came from Kevin Bold who made 32. Ockbrook’s bowling attack won the day with Chris Lees taking 4-36 and Ashleigh Gough 3-3.

Derbyshire Building Society Division 3A

Elvaston 2nds moved to the top following their win over South Wingfield by 5 wickets. Two performances stood out for them, James Bodill’s 4-29 helped to reduce South Wingfield to 170-7 and Trevor Hessey scored 76 in Elvaston’s reply. The crucial match between Ambergate and Swarkestone was called off because the Ambergate ground was waterlogged. This is a problem they have been having all season because their ground, shaped like a bowl is near the confluence of two rivers, the Amber and the Derwent. So, both Ambergate and Swarkestone came away with only 5 points. Only one point separates Ambergate and Swarkestone. Three go up from this Division to Division 2.
