Newcastle v Leeds - early team news

By Andy Baggott
January 6 2004

A big game tomorrow night in a repeat of the seasons opener, where a late Alan Shearer goal ensured that honours were all square at Elland Road. Leeds will be looking to bounce back from the FA Cup defeat by Arsenal against a rapidly improving Newcastle. Leeds will have Jermaine Pennant back in the side, probably at the expense of Eirik Bakke. Eddie Gray will take a look at both Matteo and Batty, both of who may need a bit of time to get over Sunday’s game. Botha re likely to start though. Newcastle had a big result at Southampton at the weekend, with Kieran Dyer making a return to fitness and form. The Geordies of course field Alan Shearer who seems to score at will against us. Newcastle need the win to keep up their battle for 4th place, whilst we will be looking at climbing out of the relegation spot….
