McAllister contract extended

By Andy Baggott
April 3 2008

Leeds Chairman Ken Bates today extended the contract of manager Gary McAllister and his assistant Steve Staunton. His current deal was due to run out at the end of the season, but this has now been changed to a 12 month rolling contract. The deal gives the club some stability and is a reward for Macca who has seen Leeds lose just once in the last 10 games. There has also been an improvement in the playing style, with the focus being more on the passing game.  It means Gary Mac can start looking at potential signings for next season, whilst allowing any players to know that he is here for the long term.  A sensible move by the Chairman who will be hoping that the Macca will be managing in the Championship next season.

I think this is exactly the right move at exactly the right time - Macca can command more respect, offer better incentive and make better decisions with a contract in place.

Could this possibly be the first decent thing Bates has done in his time here?

Might only be for 12 more months but at least Macca and the players know where they stand.
