As Leeds prepare to travel to Birmingham, one fan reflects on the season and how pivitol the games against birmingham could be....Regular Message board contributor "Ian Baird 1-0" gives his view...... The Birmingham City game at ER earlier this season was seen as a turning point for many supporters. Leeds had rid themselves of the under-achiever Kevin Blackwell (I wonder how many still think that, although I still think he should have gone after the play-off final!) and John Carver installed. Surely this would kickstart our season?
Well it looked that way for a short while. A great goal from David Healy (so good that you thought he was wearing green!) gave us a great start and we hung on for a famous 3-2 win against a team topping the table.

Now the season begins, we all thought!

Actually what we didn't realise was the vermin that was contaminating Leeds United was probably lesss obvious than we first thought. The onfield 'leaders' like Butler, Gregan, Sully and Kelly all seemed to be casting cold, dark shadows over the changing room and there was talk of behind-closed-doors battles and unrest. Maybe this was a cancer after all.
Needless to say Carver's time was short before Uncle Ken realised cheap, short-term options are not always the best for a club like Leeds - or has he?

In came Wisey, although I bet he wished he stayed at promotion chasing Swindon Town, and he started ridding the cancer. Unfortunately, once the vermin had been moved out and the last players with a price that others actually wanted were sold then there was nothing left. Nothing!
We have a disjointed team of cast-off's that are trying hard enough, just as their manager would if he was playing, but there are very few crumbs of comfort for us supporters. We take pride that we only lost 1-0 at Wolves when a few months back we would have surely been thrashed 4-1 or more.
We bemoan the loss of players to injury and it would certainly appear that the halls of ER are indeed cursed and that the script is written - Leeds will be relegated to the third tier come May and be in a lower Division that the likes of Scunthorpe, Yeovil and possibly Doncaster.

I am impressed with those that remain positive, optimistic, blind of faith - whatever you call it - but I am afraid my belief is dying fast. This is a team that cannot beat Hull or QPR at home yet we look at the fixture list and pick games that we are supposed to win. Why? This is a very poor team.

Tonight's game against Birmingham may be seen as another game that can change a season. We win and we are Leeds, United are back! We lose and the bells of doom will chime.
This season will not decided on tonight's result and no trends for the rest of the season will be set by victory or defeat. It is another must-win game and another vital three points. Of course we can stay up - but how many of us actually beleive that anymore?
