Leeds went through to the next round of the Carling Cup after a deserved 1-0 win. A spirited Chester side held Leeds up for long periods, and although only crediting 1 chance, restricted Leeds to very few chances themselves. United enjoyed over 75% of possession but were limited to half chances and long range shots as the visitors packed the defence. After a dour first half, Leeds upped the tempo after the break, and went in front through Eirik Bakke’s first goal for over 2 years. It wasn’t thought he opening of the floodgates, and although Leeds continued to dominate, Chester can rightly be proud of their efforts.
Good performances from Carole, Bakke and Lewis, whilst Foxe, Richardson, Gregan, Blake, Carole and Beckford all got their first starts of the season.
