The much awaited Arena Station works are almost finished, at a cost of just under £14 million. If the report on the radio this morning is anything to go by, it hardly seems worth it....

There were rumours when the idea was first revealed, there would be a mere one carriage per hour, carrying upto seventy-five people from the city centre to the Arena. Presuming as many Coventry City fans travel from Nuneaton, that would mean another 75 people could arrive by train too. This means a massive 150 people would be able to get to the Ricoh Arena to watch. Wow.

On the odd occasion the Ricoh is a sell-out (Around April-May time, when the stayaways return to watch promotion clinched), and 30,000 turn up, one in every 200 people will be able to use the service (Presuming there's enough interest from the people of Nuneaton an Bedworth). Wow.

The station WON'T be open in time for Coventry City's opening games for the 2015/16 season, as staff have to be trained on how to run the station (etc), but will be available for the opening game of the other team that plays at the Ricoh. Surprise.

Tony Blair's Labour government stated that 75% of people travelling to newly built stadiums had to get there by 'green transport'. I can't help thinking somebody concerned with the building of the Arena Station didn't hear the word 'per cent'....
