Well, if Aidy Boothroyd can't be bothered to take this competition seriously, I can't be bothered to write a proper match report....

So many sides don't bother taking this competition seriously, that there is a real chance of progressing to the money-making rounds - sadly, AB opted to make ten changes, and 'little Morecambe' were the winners. However pointless the League Cup might now be classed as, the feel-good factor around the City makes any trophy worth competing for, so this was an opportunity blown.

As if making ten changes to the side that made a winning start to the league campaign wasn't daft enough, Boothroyd didn't even opt to have potential match-winners warming the bench in case of emergency. He also did not warn those supporters that paid good money (Never mind taking time off work) to go and watch, that he was going to play our reserve side. I'm sure a fair few of those that made the journey would have listened on the radio at home if they had known....

On the pitch, Colin Doyle was drafted in from Birmingham City at the very last moment (Signed because he was the only spare keeper in the country that would have made it to the team-bus in time), rather than risking youngster Michael Quirke, and was called upon to pick the ball out of the back of the net twice. David Bell was the only survivor from the side that beat Portsmouth.

Not-very-old Johnson Clark-Harris became the youngest player to ever make an appearance for Coventry City during this fixture, though I'm sure he would have prefered to have started his CCFC career on a winning side. While defeat in this fixture has split opinion, a fair few Coventry City supporters would like to have seen the team progress too.

The excuse that other Championship sides couldn't care less about the League Cup does not matter to me, as I am only interested in Coventry City, and I want them to compete properly in every fixture, whether it be the Championship, the FA Cup, and even the League Cup. I even support them in the poxy pre-season trophies they play for, where the trophy has been bought at a car boot sale for £2.50, and the plaque with the previous details on replaced with a bit of paper and a marker pen message....

Game two, mistake No. 1 from Aidy Boothroyd. A result at Watford is needed so this match is quickly forgotten.
