Another Dull Season Almost Over....

Well, I've massively neglected this site again this season, but, in my defence, it is extremely difficult to keep interested in a team that is, according to those that work such things out, statistically the worst side in all the divisions over the last fourty years, with no top six finishes achieved.

There are a dozen plus half written articles in various places on my computer, but my attitude most of the time is: 'what's the point if the team can't be bothered?' There is talent in the squad, as every so often we see glimpses of it - but not often enough.

That Kieran Westwood, our 'Player Of The Season' without a doubt, wants to stay, means he is either a glutton for punishment, or can also see, with the right guidance, there is some potential in the side. Westwood, McPake, and Wood at the back is as good as it gets in the Championship - now the side needs to build a team around them.

There is a nice blend of youth and experience in the side, but the experience in the side seemingly does little to pass on their knowledge to those in need, with the only one that talks to team-mates being Clinton Morrison, who merely moans his way through matches.

I have often wondered if our problem is our youngsters have a fear of doing something wrong, so do nothing, in case they give Morrison the chance to mouth off again....

It was nice to read recently that Chris Coleman has realised the problem with the current squad is a lack of pace and power, then disappointing to read he intends to keep Barnett, Stead, and Sears next season, if possible. These are not the players that will get you a top six finish.

According to rumours, Coleman himself might not be here next season, and it will be interesting if he goes elsewhere to see if he tries to sign these players on loan for his next managerial post! I think not....

A defender with the ability to know which direction he is heading or kicking the ball would be better than Barnett; a goal-scorer more in the 'battering-ram' mould in place of Stead would also improve the side; while somebody with a build slightly bigger than my seven-year-old daughter (Who could probably also hit the target more often than our WHU loanee) in place of Sears would be my preference.

Once Coventry-Watford is over, I'll be finishing off those articles, and, despite the fact they are more than likely now very irrelevant, put them up on this site....
