Part 5 - The slump: April and May....

APRIL: No wins, four draws, three defeats.

Dan Fox states that he wants to stay at Coventry City, and wants so sign a new contract as soon as the season ends, while Aron Gunnarsson is annoyed with the Scottish media for stating that he would like to join some Mickey Mouse side in green and white. Chris Coleman is up before the F.A. again,  this time defending comments he made after the Chelsea game, where he (Rightly) accused referee Steve Bennett of being 'smug', and too friendly with Chelsea's players. Aron Gunnarsson describes the fixture versus Reading as 'boring', and reveals that midfield team-mate Guillaume Beuzelin said the same thing at half-time (As the nearest thing we have to a play-maker, surely it was up to GB to do something about it?!). Unsurprisingly, this 'boring' match (Which didn't see a return for bit-part-player Jay Tabb) ended 0-0, though Coventry do win 4-3 on bookings. Coventry City lose recent signing David Bell, and recent loan signing Jordan Henderson, to injuries, with the latter having his loan spell ended early, and going back to Sunderland. Another Ben Turner error gifts Crystal Palace a point, in a game that saw a quality strike from Aron Gunnarsson - playing in a more advanced role - give Coventry the lead after half-an-hour. Chris Coleman once again apologises to supporters after another dismal defeat, this time 4-0 away to nothing-more-than-average Plymouth (With all four goals coming in the opening 37 minutes), makes an even bigger mockery of the fairly recent play-off talk. Coventry City supporting Ashley Cain makes his debut versus Charlton, and looks to have an asset severely lacking in the team: pace. Despite being relegation certainties, Charlton leave the Ricoh with a point, in a disappointing 0-0 draw. Kevin Thornton again states he intends to get his head down and get on with the business of playing football, with the next season being 'massive' for him (This now, I guess, is presuming Port Vale actually want him....). Nottm Forest score before the majority have even come back from their half-time pie and pint (Around 35 seconds in) to take all three points at the City Ground, with Freddie Eastwood coming in for criticism from manager Chris Coleman. Despite the defeat against Forest, Coventry City are still made mathematically safe from relegation, thanks to Ipswich's win over Norwich. An Elliott Ward penalty deep into second half injury time helps Coventry City take a much deserved point against Barnsley, leaving Michael Mifsud's (Fairly) new employers still waiting on safety in the Championship. Said player wasn't actually involved in the fixture, with rumours that he was unable to squeeze his ego through the Ricoh doors denied by both clubs. Coventry City play in the infamous 'chocolate kit' to celebrate their anniversary in the fixture versus Watford, and give a performance that sums the club up perfectly over the last few decades: they manage to go from two-nil up to three-two down in a matter of minutes, finishing the seasons home fixtures on a real low. To add insult to injury, Dan Fox picked up a pointless red card, meaning he will be suspended for the start of the next season (Though, having moved to Celtic, this turned out to be an irrelevance to Coventry City supporters). This defeat leaves Chris Coleman making another 'No Sh*t Sherlock!' statement when he declares Coventry City are 'not good enough'. Dan Fox and Kieran Westwood are both named in the PFA's 'Championship Team Of The Year'.

MAY: One game, one defeat.

Roy Keane's first game in charge of Ipswich sees Coventry City gift him victory, to get his tenure at Portman Road off to a flying start. Chris Coleman had told his players that some of them were playing for their futures, and it looked as if some of them knew they weren't good enough, and were likely to be shown the 'exit door' anyway. Of the ten points Chris Coleman had stated he wanted from the last six games, Coventry City manage a pathetic two. Once again, that final whistle just could not come fast enough....
