John Nutter's signature was deemed as a bit of a coup for the Imps after the experienced defender's past. He was part of a Stevenage side that were consistently challenging for promotion from the Conference and won the League Two Playoffs with Gillingham in 2009.

John Nutter is a former England C International and joined the Imps ahead of their 2011/12 Blue Square Premier campaign. It was the first time he had been in that division since the 2007/8 season, in which he had helped Stevenage yet again challenge for promotion.

Nutter's career started at Blackburn Rovers before joining Wycombe Wanderers in 2011. A three year spell at Aldershot followed, with loan spells at St Albans City and Gravesend & Northfleet (as they were known then) whilst at the Recreation Ground.

He helped Grays Athletic almost enter the Football League via the Playoffs before joining Stevenage. 8 goals in 65 games for the Broadhall Way side was enough to impress League One side Gillingham, who signed him up. A year later and he helped the Gills on the way to winning the League Two Playoffs, beating Shrewsbury in the final.

Relegation followed straight away before Gillingham just missed out on the Playoffs in 2010/11. John was released soon afterwards and joined the Imps on July 8th 2011.

Nutter proved to be a bit of a mixed bag at the Imps. He was good going forward and put in many dangerous balls from open play (from corners is another matter) and scorea few free kicks whilst at Sincil Bank, but his defensive abilities were very much up for debate.

It became a rare sight seing Nutter in position and a lot of the goals that we conceded were from his side, either because he had failed yet another tackle, or had yet again wandered miles out of position, and also left his fellow defenders overloaded with attackers to deal with.

His last appearance for the Imps came in the very memorable win at Walsall in the FA Cup, he would soon leave to go to Woking.

I think he is our best signing so far. A massive improvement on Joe Anderson.
