Lincoln City secured a 2-1 win over Southend United after Ashley Grimes scored both sides of a Blair Sturrock strike to secure the points for the Imps. It was an entertaining game at Sincil Bank between two sides who now look likely to be in League Two last season.

There was a surprise before kick off as Jamie Clapham and Ben Hutchinson were included in the starting line up for the first time in a long time. The Imps kicked off the lame with Hutchinson testing Evans in the Southend goal early on. A few corners eventually saw Facey head wide from a Clapham delivery.

Chances weren't exactly flowing but it was an interesting game due to the edgey factor of Tilson facing his old side for the first time. Southend were having a fair amount of the ball but weren't really doing anything with it as City were creating the chances. Carayol headed a Facey cross wide before a Clapham volley hit Barker's chest. It took until the 38th minute for the deadlock to be broken and it came as Carayol broke forward, smashing an effort goalwards seeing Evans spill it straight into the Grimes, the loanee didn't make a mistake and made it 15 for the season, the first player since Ben Wright in 2007/8 to reach that landmark.

Grimes came close to making it 2-0 when Grimes headed a cross wide before a stoppage in play saw Peter Gilbert go off injured, he was replaced by Comminges.

The Imps were again quick starters in the second half as Hutchinson and Grimes worked together to feed Facey, however, he was denied by a good block. Grant replaced Easton for the hosts and was quickly speaking to the referee after several fouls. Grimes was booked for a high foot on Ferdinand.

Clapham set Facey free down the right for Hutchinson to head across goal, but the loanee had his header hacked off of the line by Barker. After only just failing to make it 2-0, City conceded from Southend's first shot of the game as a defensive mix-up allowed Blair Sturrock to toe-poke in six yards out, Carson just failing to get his hand to the effort.

Clapham and Comminges were joined for late challenges before Evans produced an unbelievable save from O'Keefe at the back post, denying his point blank header. The game seemed destined to end 1-1 but then eleven minutes from the end, a moment of brilliance from Ashley Grimes secured the points for City. A long ball forward from Carson was controlled by Grimes, he ran at the defence, cut inside before hitting his effort in off the underside of the bar.

Corr failed to connect with a Sturrock cross before Asante replaced Hall for he visitors. Former Shrimper Scott Spencer also came on late and was given his chance to score his first goal for the Imps pretty much straight away, being sent free by Facey and Carayol, but his first time effort went over the bar.
