Imps and Accrington in dire encounter.

It was a dire game on Saturday afternoon as Lincoln City failed to beat Accrington Stanley at home for the first time in history. It was a game devoid of realistic chances with only a Gavin McCallum chance midway through the first half looking like it was going to go in.

City kicked off the game and the first chance came early on as Grimes looked to pounce on a poor back pass, but goalkeeper Cisak's delayed reaction didn't cost him as he managed to clear the ball just in time. Barnett needed treating for a leg injury after severan minutes before Cisak claimed a Carayol cross.

Accrington won a corner after a deflected shot before Hone cleared the set piece. Carayol hit an effort straight at Cisak before McCallum had the game's best chance of a goal as he cut inside and unleashed a goalbound shot that was well tipped around the post. Barnett sliced wide but that was about it for the first half.

McConville replaced Barnett for the visitors during half time, the substitute smashed the first chance of the second half wide as the second half proved to be as chance-free as the first before Carayol was denied and Craney hit a shot wide just after the hour mark. The referee wasn't helping matters though as he consistently blew for the most minor offences, including giving Lincoln a corner even though the ball went no-where near over the line.

Hutchinson came on for Grimes with fifteen minutes to go before Hone had a header easily claimed by Cisak. Putterill replaced Ryan before Hutchinson hit a free kick from 20 yards straight at the keeper. McConville hit a volley wide and that was about it for the game.

If Accrington failed to beat Accrington then I guess there was really only one team in it!

I had accidentally pressed publish too early...luckily I was able to correct it the second time around.

Good Luck, Mr Gorsky
