Lincoln's prospects of avoiding relegation took a slight boost when, after slating the defending, Steve Tilson confirmed that all parties were happy for Ashley Grimes to stay until the end of the season, unless someone attempts to buy him from Millwall.
Grimes joined the Imps on loan in October from Millwall and has gone on to score four goals in the eight games so far, all of them coming in the last five games. His loan was extended recently to go up until January 11th, but speaking in his post-match interview, Tilson confirmed that all parties involved are happy for Grimes to stay for the rest of the season.
"We're looking to extend it until the end of the season, Ashley's keen to do it and it's just a case of if anyone comes in to buy him from Millwall. If that's the case then they're going to sell him," Tilson told BBC Radio Lincolnshire. "I've spoken to their manager and he's said to me that there's a deal done until the end of the season," Tilson continued.
Grimes is not very likely to get a new deal at Millwall, for whom he has scored just twice in twenty-one appearances. It's a similar situation to the one that saw Davide Somma come to the club last season, eventually scoring the goals that kept the club up.
With 4 goals in 8 games, Grimes is currently joint top of the club's scoring charts, level with Ben Hutchinson, whom hasn't scored since November 20th.
I'd guess it depends on how much Millwall would want for him. My guess would be that it would beat least £75,000 and there aren't that many clubs in our division that regularly spend on transfers...other than maybe Bradford.
It does like as though we cant afford him,and a loan is the best bet.
Steve Tilson said there are goals in Ben Hutchinson so it looks as though we shall get one defender and that will be it,if Ashley Grimes goes elsewhere that would release another loan place.
I am afraid we are going to be in a month of "Ifs, Buts and Maybes"
My own view would be to buy Grimes and Howells, thus releasing
3 loan places.
One thing for certain is we cant afford to pussyfoot about,we have to be positive.
