Former Imp receives international call up

Davide Somma has received a call up to the South Africa national side for the first time in his career. Having finished last season in great form, Somma has scored six goals in twelve appearances for Leeds this year and will hopefully win his first cap when South Africa meet America.

Somma has used his momentum gained at Sincil Bank to force his way into the Leeds side and has certainly enjoyed a good spell in the team this season, scoring six goals in twelve games, including a brace on his League debut for the Whites.

He has been called up for Pitso Mosimane's squad to face America, a side that also contains a former Imp, Eric Lichaj.

"It's important to give him a chance to see what he is made of," Mosimane told the BBC. "At the same time, I don't want to put him under pressure and put it to him that he is the answer to our scoring problems. I just want to give him a chance to play for South Africa and increase our pool of strikers. He has been scoring in almost every match so we have to bring him in and hope it works out for him."

The friendly will be played next Wednesday.
