Penultimate member of the "Magnificent Seven" departs

The penultimate member of the signings that Peter Jackson described as "The Magnificent Seven" has left Sincil Bank after nearly two seasons. Stefan Oakes flattered to decieve for much of his time at the Imps and it comes as little surprise that he has now gone.

Along with Rob Burch, Janos Kovacs, David Graham, Kevin Gall, Aaron Brown and Frank Sinclair, Stefan Oakes signed in the summer of 2008 and the group was declared as the "Magnificent Seven" in the hypefest that commenced before last season. Now that group is down to just Burch.

Oakes joined after rejecting a contract from Wycombe Wanderers, but very rarely playing in a consistent run of games and proved to be extremely injury prone. Although an excellent footballer, very few will probably argue with his departure as it was pointless paying someone a season's wages when they struggle to make 15 games.

Well maybe it was time to go.. never really reached the full potential that we hoped for, has got an amazing left foot, shame he was so often injured.. wish him luck in the future x

Clearly had the talent but he didnt do the business anything like often did he?
Allegdly our biggest earner too.
Wonder who will want him?
Hasn't covering himself in glory has he?

I agree with you Sammy, shame he was so injury prone, I loved the way he could effortlessly 'ping' a ball 60yards to the feet of our widemen. All the best to him.

I dont think he will be short of offers, good player but will stay in Midlands, maybe Mansfield or Kettering?

I liked Oakes and wanted him to do better than he did.

That said he reminded me of Ray "The Crab" Wilkins. For those too young to remember he got his name at AC Milan because everything seemed to go sideways. There were lots of pretty passes, but not killer through balls.

I wish him well.
