Reading have failed to secure any new singings on the last day before the transfer window closes. Apart from a reported failed loan move for Tottenham's Callum Davenport Reading have shown little interest in any other players.

After the news that Dave Kitson and Steven Sidwell could be out injured for up to six weeks, Royals fans were expecting to see at least a central defender arriving in loan. In the wake of two of Royals stars ruled out for over a month maybe a new striker on loan could have been expected as well.

Considering Reading have a bare bone squad already and after a good start to the season Steve Coppell is playing a very dangerous game with the prospect of fielding a number of youngsters in a season which is make or break for manager Steve Coppell. After the poor end to last season, Coppell had all but promised a new central defender would be arriving over the summer, but Reading supporters are still waiting.

However although permanent and season long loan deals are now prohibited until January short term loan deals are still possible so lets hope for some good news in the next few days or weeks.
