MATCH REPORT

Reading started much the brighter and could have been ahead after only a couple of minutes after a shot from Shaun Goater went just over the bar from a Glen Little cross.

The first 15 minutes were all Reading but the Royals drifted out of the game more as the half materialised.

Reading though did have a golden opportunity right at the end of the half to take the lead.

Good work down the left hand side by Paul Brooker left Owusu with an easy tap in but somehow the ex Brentford forward failed to get in a shot after getting his feet tangled.

Luckily Reading would not regret the miss.

Half Time: Oxford United 0:0 Reading

At the beginning of the second half it was Oxford's turn of a glaring miss.

A ball through to Rob Wolleaston left the player with a simple shot but somehow he managed to put the ball wide of Hahnemann's goal.

It took just over an hour for the first goal of the game and it went to the Royals.

A flowing counter attack left Shaun Goater to score his first goal of the new season after Oxford keeper, Chris Tardiff can only parry the ball to the Bermuda International.

Reading were never in to much danger after the goal and went on to finish the game off.

Another counter attack left Reading with two on one and when Brooker put the ball through to Hughes he blasted the ball in to the roof of the net to seal the game off.

The draw for the second round of the Carling Cup took place of yesterdays game and it saw Reading drawn at home against fellow Championship team, Watford.

Man Of The Match: Andy Hughes

Played in the middle of midfield alongside James Harper and did extremely well. A well taken goal to cap off the evening as well.
